The Power of a Pause
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the practice of meditation. It’s a simple act—just sitting, breathing, and being present—but its impact can be profound. Meditation creates space between our thoughts, and in that space, we find clarity, calm, and focus.
At Toastmasters, we practice a similar kind of mindful pause. Whether it’s gathering our thoughts before speaking, or listening with full attention to others, those moments of awareness can transform not just our speeches, but also the way we connect with one another.
On a personal note, I’ve recently encouraged my elder one to start meditating. It’s been about two weeks now, and he hasn’t noticed much change yet. But like all good habits, the benefits often arrive quietly, revealing themselves when we least expect them. I trust that one day he’ll see it was a worthwhile decision.
As a club, we’ve also seen the rewards of steady practice and mindful growth. I’m delighted to share that we received the Kinsley Moodey Shield Award and achieved Distinguished Club Award this year—a recognition of everyone’s dedication and spirit.
As we continue to grow together as speakers and leaders, may we all remember the value of a pause—the breath before the words, the silence that makes sound meaningful.
✨ See you all soon!
