The wait is almost over! The Auckland Heritage Festival is just under two weeks away & we’re beyond excited to bring you one of the most imaginative events of the season: the Human Chessboard!!
Step into a living game board in the heart of the city, where players become life-sized chess pieces in a dramatic public match guided by EMC Chess Club leader Stuart Vogel.
Knights gallop, bishops plot, queens command & yes, even the audience gets a chance to be part of the action!
This heritage-inspired event pays homage to Auckland’s past chess champions : from J.C. Grierson to “Mr Chess” Ortvin Sarapu, while celebrating the timeless joy of play, strategy & community connection.
