Goth Night returns for its most haunted chapter yet—a Halloween descent into sound, shadow, and sonic resurrection. Whether you’re goth to the bone or just feeling the October pull, this is your night to gather, dress to express, and lose yourself in the noise.
Since 2022, Goth Night has become a ritual for Auckland’s alternative underground—a space where post-punk purists, darkwave dancers, and gothic rock romantics converge across two levels of curated chaos. This time, we go deeper.
Upstairs at Dead Witch, General Kala return from their South Island tour, where they were promoting all six of their EPs—available now on CD, cassette, and digital download via generalkala.com and Bandcamp. The collection includes a fully re-recorded HEXAD, alongside SLEEPWALKER, NIGHT FLIGHT, THE PRETERNATURAL EYE, and RETROGRADE. This month, they’re spotlighting RE-ANIMATOR—a release built for resurrection and ritual. Described as Ultravox meets Kate Bush, General Kala fuse vintage synthesis, syncopated rhythm, and soaring melodic composition. The original lineup—Christina Cusiel (vox), Jonny Spence (synths), and Darren Mathiassen (drums)—has been crafting synthesiser-driven music since 2013, drawing from classic analog-synth acts and progressive rock to create a sound that’s visceral, cinematic, and built to move.
Joining them is Stud Finder /stʌd/ /ˈfʌɪndə/:
- A handheld device used to locate hidden studs (large pieces of wood) which can handle a heavy load.
- A horde of deviants collectively producing sultry trip-hop inspired tunes.

Downstairs in the main bar, DJs Passion Crypt, Gravedigger, The Doctor, and Ravebat spin a Halloween-heavy mix of gothic rock, post-punk, darkwave, industrial, and synth-laced club cuts. Bauhaus, Siouxsie, Joy Division, and The Sisters of Mercy meet Boy Harsher, Drab Majesty, Twin Tribes, and Lebanon Hanover. Shadowy, seductive, built for movement.
