Join us for a closing weekend Coffee & Croissants kōrero to farewell in Pohewa Pāhewa: Te Rūma with Kereama Taepa and Graham Tipene.

Kereama Taepa and Graham Tipene approach their mahi toi with traditional mātauranga (knowledge) interpreted with new tools of expression. Both incorporate digital technologies in original ways – from 3D printed taonga to neon waharoa.

Hear from these two innovators on the final day of Pohewa Pāhewa: Te Rūma, sharing the different ways in which they navigate digital representations of mahi toi with integrity and originality.

Graham Tipene (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāti Kahu, Ngāti Hine, Ngāti Haua, Ngāti Manu) is a Tā Moko artist who has been involved as a consultant and key artist on civic and Council-led projects throughout Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. His public work brings Māori kaupapa into the built environment of the city, with major projects including the Waterview tunnel, Victoria Park, Auckland Library, and Tirohanga Whānui Bridge in Albany.

Kereama Taepa (Te Arawa, Te Āti Awa) is a contemporary Māori creative who manifests works based on customary Māori artforms, with a technological twist. His involvement in the arts has been broad and varied, from being a bronze technician at the Dibble Arts Foundry and participating in various Māori arts symposiums, workshops and hui, to offering freelance design services from his kitchen table.
