Adventures with ruru! Presented by Kevin Barker and Olga Brochner.
Kevin Barker and Olga Brochner are a nature loving Auckland couple who were inspired to research and help Auckland's urban Ruru after they observed Ruru in their small urban garden in Royal Oak. The talk will be a summary of three years of observations over 2.5 breeding seasons and a community "Citizen Science" project that developed from an association with the Maungakiekie Songbird Trust.
Kevin Barker and Olga Brochner are active members of Birds NZ , Pūkorokoro Naturalists Trust, Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi and Maungakiekie Songbird. With more than 20 years experience in conservation volunteering they also volunteer at Māngere as trappers, guides and NZ Dotterel observers.
Kevin is a Physics teacher and Olga is a Clinical Nurse Specialist. In 2008 Kevin won a Teacher Fellowship where he investigated Kauri Snails in the Waitākere Ranges and was based at UNITEC. Olga is currently a trustee for the Miranda Naturalists Trust.
