Come to our monthly Postmark Poetry Nights! Doors open at 6:00PM, poetry starts at 6:30PM.
Arrive early to peruse artwork by local artists, bring a poem to share during the open mic, and bring a poetry book to swap for a poetry book at our book exchange!
December's featured poet is Poet Laureate of Auburn, Mateo Quispe! Mateo Quispe will read his poems and lead a talk and workshop about how we write and create place in our everyday lives.
Throughout his reading, Quispe will share some of the Postmark’s history as a post office, art gallery, and community space. Attendees will have the opportunity to write a letter to history, their own cities, a building, or public service. Finally, Quispe will share his upcoming Canoe Poetry Nooks Project and poems about the future. The workshop will end with participants writing a letter to a future history, city, building, or public service that may or may not yet exist. Participants will be able to share their work at the following open mic!
Mateo Quispe (Little Shell Chippewa & Quechua heritage) is the current Auburn Poet Laureate and a recipient of an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship. The former Seattle Youth Poet Laureate, his term culminated in the publication of his first chapbook, Dear Spanish (Poetry Northwest) and the debut of his chamber opera, Blood Dawn of the Inti Sun. You can find his work online at Poets.org and Echox.org, or printed in The Gay & Lesbian Review, Creative Colloquy, The Madrona Project, and the newly released Birdbrains: A Lyrical Guide to Washington State Birds.
