Basketball Referee – Level 1 Course 2026

Basketball is more than a sport.
It is a way of life, a school of values, discipline, respect and decision-making.
The Malta Basketball Association Referees Department announces the launch of a new Basketball Referee Level 1 Course, starting in January 2026, welcoming NEW participants to join the first cohort who already partly began their refereeing journey (Basketball Referee Level 1 Course November 2025) earlier this season.
What will you gain?
✔ An introduction to the Rules of Basketball
✔ An initial understanding of refereeing mechanics and positioning
✔ Knowledge of violations, fouls and game control
✔ Personal development skills: confidence, communication and decision-making
Who is this course for?
This course is for ANYONE who loves basketball or wants to grow through sport:
▪️ Young players who want to see the game from a new perspective
▪️ Ex-players looking to stay involved in basketball
▪️ Parents and club officials wanting a deeper understanding of the game
▪️ Students aged over 14–24 (or older) following sport units, PE, Sport Science or Higher Education courses
▪️ Teachers and educators involved in sport
▪️ Basketball lovers who may not play or coach, but want to belong

You only need passion, curiosity and commitment.

Course Initial Schedule:
Session 1: Monday 12th January evening
Session 2: Saturday 17th January morning/afternoon
Session 3: Monday 26th January evening
