SWAN RIVER CHASE 2025
The SWAN RIVER CHASE 2025 is going to be an epic three species fishing competition in the Swan & Canning Rivers.

About this Event


SWAN RIVER CHASE

There will be official competition packs handed out to entrants on completion of the compulsory briefing (the Briefing) and immediately prior to the Event starting. These packs will include a guide explaining how to use the Track my Fish App.

Competition pack will also include:

1 pk of soft plastic lure tails

DPIRD fish measure tape

Stubby holder

Estimated retail value $30

Ticket Sales close 15th October and entrants will be encouraged to download the App Track my Fish before the Event. Entrant numbers are capped at 200 so purchase a ticket early to ensure you dont miss out.


Verification of Registrations for participants is open between 7.00 am and 8.00 am on the day of the Event.

Please note there will be a compulsory Briefing for participants to attend on the morning of the Event. This Briefing is to explain the Event rules, answer questions, and reinforce relevant safety messages.


Compulsory Briefing – 07:30 am

The issue of competition packs will comence immediately after the Briefing.


Fishing times – 08.00 am – 4.00 pm with fish entries to the Track my Fish App to be submitted by 4.00 pm.

Competition results and the Presentation of prizes will be held at 5.00 pm on the same day as the Event.

Swan River – Old traffic bridge at Fremantle up to West Swan road traffic bridge Upper Swan River

Canning River – from old traffic bridge at Fremantle up to Kent street weir in Cannington.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY– FREMANTLE AMATEUR ANGLING CLUB SWAN RIVER CHASE

The Fremantle Amateur Angling Club (FAAC) is organising a fishing competition, the Swan River Chase (the Event), to be held on Saturday, 25 October 2025. Further information about the Event, as well as the terms and conditions of participation in the Event are set out below.

The Event is endorsed by Recfishwest.


EVENT DETAILS

1. The Event will run between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm, or other times as notified by FAAC.

2. The winner of the Event will be the participant who, during the Event, catches and submits on the Track My Fish app photographs of up to twelve (12) fish, the aggregate length of which is greater than that of any other participant’s submission.

3. There is an entry fee of $50 for participants aged 16 years and over, and of $20 for participants aged under 16 years.


ENTRY

4. The event is open to participants of all ages and skill levels.

5. Any participant under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during the Event including the Event Briefing (the Briefing). NO EXCEPTIONS!

6. Participants aged 16 years and above will compete in the Open Division. Participants aged under 16 years will compete in the Junior Division.

7. All participants must attend the Event Briefing starting 7.30 am on the day of the Event, at Attadale Reserve, Burke Drive, Attadale. Failure to attend the Briefing will result in disqualification from entry to the Event and the entry fee will not be refunded for non-attendance at this Briefing.

8. Immediately following the Event Briefing, FAAC will provide a competition pack and other important Event information. This includes the qualifying fish species (Event Species), the maximum number of fish per Event Species allowed for submission, and Event fishing area boundaries.

9. All participants must exercise due caution when participating in the Event.


PHOTOGRAPH SUBMISSION

10. The following rules apply for a participant’s competition submission to be valid:

a. Each fish must be caught during the Event;

b. Each fish must be an Event Species;

c. A submission may not include more than three (3) different Event Species;

d. A submission must not include more than four (4) fish of any Event Species;

e. A submission must not include more than twelve (12) fish across all species;

f. The participant must submit a clear photograph of each fish using the provided measuring guide (DPIRD Sticker Ruler with FAAC logo clearly visible) to the Event on the Track My Fish app; and

g. Each photograph submitted by the participant must, in the opinion of FAAC, clearly display:

(i) The fish’s length and width using the FAAC-issued size chart provided at after the Briefing,

(ii) The whole of the fish with the nose of the fish aligned to the zero (0) marking on the FAAC-issued size chart, and

(iii) The tail of the fish laid naturally on the size chart, not pulled straight or otherwise adjusted in any way.


PRIZES AND PRESENTATION

11. The award of all prizes will be decided by FAAC, in its sole discretion.

12. Prizes are as follows:

a. 1st Place Prize (Open Division: 16 years and over) – largest aggregate of all fish lengths.

b. 2nd Place Prize (Open Division: 16 years and over) – 2nd largest aggregate of all fish lengths.

c. 1st Place Prize (Junior Division: under 16 years) – largest aggregate of all fish lengths.

d. 2nd Place Prize (Junior Division: under 16 years) – 2nd largest aggregate of all fish lengths.

e. Largest catch of a nominated Event Species (Open Division) – species will be announced at the Briefing.

f. Largest catch of a nominated Event Species (Junior Division) – species will be announced at the Briefing.

g. Largest fish caught using sponsor’s gift (Open Division) – gift will be provided at the Briefing. Submission photograph must clearly show sponsor’s gift.

h. Largest fish caught using sponsor’s gift (Junior Division) – gift will be provided at the Briefing. Submission photograph must clearly show sponsor's gift.

i. A Mystery Prize – drawn from a list of all other non-prize-winning participants in the Event.

13. FAAC may, in its sole discretion, provide sponsored gifts bags, handouts and other prizes during the Event presentation (the Presentation).

14. Participants must be present at the Presentation to receive their prize. Failure to be present at the Presentation will result in disqualification and a forfeit of their prize, which will be given to the participant with the next largest fish aggregate length.

15. The Presentation will be held at 5.00 pm on the day of the Event at Attadale Reserve, Burke Drive, Attadale.


DISQUALIFICATION

16. Any participant who, in the opinion of FAAC club officials, uploads photographs of undersize fish or species other than Event Species, will be disqualified from the Event.

17. Any participant who, in the opinion of FAAC club officials, displays unsporting conduct (including but not limited to, the high-grading of catches), fails to abide by Western Australian fishing size and bag limit regulations, or breaches the Event rules, including but not limited to, prescribed species or species submission limits, will be disqualified.

18. FAAC will not refund any entry fee to any participant disqualified for any reason.


CATCH & RELEASE

19. FAAC promotes and supports the catch and release of all fish species caught once counted towards the individual’s bag limit.

20. FAAC supports the safe handling of fish. If competitors wish to keep their catch, all fish kept should be handled humanely and stored using appropriate cooling facilities to ensure the fish does not become spoiled.


OTHER CONDITIONS

21. Insurance is limited to public liability held by FAAC and no personal accident cover is provided for Event participants.

22. Terms and Conditions of the Event are made in accordance with the climatic and safety conditions applicable at the time. Participants (including accompanying spectators) will adhere to guidance and instructions issued by the FAAC officials prior to, or on the day of, the Event.


AGREEMENT, WAIVER AND INDEMNITY

1. I/We the undersigned in consideration of, and as a condition of acceptance of my entry in the Event for myself, my heirs, executors and/or administrators (I/we) hereby waive all and any claim, right or cause of action which I/we might otherwise have arising out of my death or injury, damage or loss of any description whatsoever I may suffer or sustain in the course of, or consequent upon my entry or participation in the Event. This release shall extend to and include: FAAC and its associates, including agents, contractors, employees and volunteers appointed for the Event; the owners, licensees and occupiers of land upon which the Event or any part of it is conducted; any statutory body or local authority having control over any land upon which the Event or any part of it is conducted or which is involved directly or indirectly with the Event in any manner whatsoever; and promoters, sponsors and Event organisers.

2. I understand that competing in this Event involves the real risk of serious injury or even death from various causes including, but not limited to, overexertion, heart attack, dehydration, or accidents. I understand that competing in this Event involves activity including boating activity, on the Swan and Canning Rivers, which are used by other people and traffic, and I am aware of the hazards involved. The hazards include, but are not limited to, vessel traffic, actions of competitors, spectators, Event personnel, weather conditions, and my physical and mental state of health. If I have concerns related to my health that could impact my ability to undertake this Event safely, I will seek guidance from my medical provider.

3. If entrant is under 16 years, I certify that I am the parent/legal guardian and he/she has my consent to participate in the Event.

4. This waiver, release and discharge shall be (and operate separately) in favour of all persons, corporations and bodies involved or otherwise engaged in promotion or staging the Event and each of their servants, agents, representatives and officers.

5. Under no circumstances will a refund be provided.

6. I/we give permission for the free use of my name, voice or picture in any broadcast, telecast, advertising, promotion or other account of this Event, including advertising and promotions for future FAAC events.

7. I/we agree to read the rules and regulations and conform to them.

8. I acknowledge that safety precautions undertaken by organisers (such as Event supervision, Event rules and the Event briefing) are a service to me and other competitors but are not a guarantee of safety. I accept that I have an important responsibility to carefully read and listen to all safety briefings and to immediately seek clarification on anything which is not entirely clear to me.

9. I understand that I am fully responsible for the security of my personal possessions at the Event.

10. If the Event is cancelled due to poor weather or any other condition beyond the control of the organisers, I accept that my entry fee will not be refunded.

11. I acknowledge that by reason of circumstances beyond the control of the Event organisers, it may become necessary or desirable to change the format of the Event, and if that occurs, I consent to the changes and I agree that each and every one of the conditions herein set out shall apply to that changed event.

12. Privacy Statement: FAAC respects and values the privacy of all information we collect about event participants. As the event organiser, we collect information about participants for the administration and conduct of the Event. If you choose not to provide all information requested, we may be unable to allow you to participate in the Event. Information collected will not be stored in the FAAC database. By entering this Event, you consent to your personal information being provided to the FAAC and the Track My Fish app. You also have a right to access your personal information held by us, subject to some exceptions allowed by law, and may request us to correct information that we hold about you that is inaccurate.
