TINA AND HER PONY
Indie Appalachian folk band Tina and Her Pony began in Asheville in 2010. The band is centered around the songwriting of front woman Tina Collins, a classically trained musician who first toured with her band Over Under Yonder, playing songs from her 2009 debut album Journey Onward, which was composed as she thru-hiked from Maine to Georgia on the Appalachian Trail..
Tina's 2023 album Marigolds is about the cyclical nature of change, and of death and rebirth as initiation. In addition to familiar sweet vocal harmonies and smooth, thoughtfully crafted instrumentation on cello, tenor banjo, acoustic guitar and pedal steel, Marigolds explores hints of pop and soul, with the sounds of electric bass, jazz organ and synth.
Collins’ songwriting incorporates complexities in harmony and arrangement that queer the American folk tradition. Her unique sound draws inspiration from artists such as Gillian Welch, Sarah Jarosz and Watchhouse.

THE MOON AND YOU
Asheville-based The Moon and You is the charismatic husband-and-wife team of Melissa Hyman (cello and bass) and Ryan Furstenberg (guitar and banjo). They bring a gorgeous vocal blend with heartfelt lyrics.
Melissa grew up in the NYC area studying classical cello. Her dad is a professional violinist and formal music instructor, her mom a fan of 60s folk who loves to host a good old-fashioned sing-along. Ryan was born and raised among the Eastern NC tobacco fields, learning classic country and 70s rock on harmonica and then guitar.
Together, the two form a sound that is warm and inviting, atmospheric and playful. Each is a well-developed songwriter with a distinctive voice, and their songs—lyrics-driven and intellectual—range in style from classic to quirky.
On stage they are funny, charming and slightly odd; communing with their audiences, warts and all.
