Experience the powerful and gripping world of “Passing Shadows”, an evocative new play by award-winning playwright Carol Welter. Set in post-World War II England, as the Windrush generation begins to rebuild a nation, this compelling story weaves together love, identity, and resilience against a backdrop of societal upheaval.
Decades ago, a young Black Jamaican girl and a White English boy fell passionately in love, their secret romance spanning over two years before she vanished without a trace—unaware that she was carrying his child. That child, Anita-May, is raised in Scotland, passing as white and unaware of her true roots.
Now, in the present day, Anita-May encounters her mother for the first time and is determined to find her father—her plan? To marry into a white family, using her position to champion the rights of marginalized communities. But as she navigates love and identity, will she pass as truly white? Will her new family accept her? And ultimately, will she find the courage to embrace her authentic self?
“Passing Shadows” is a heart-pounding exploration of race, heritage, and the shadows that follow us across generations.
With unwavering storytelling and dynamic characters, Carol Welter invites you to witness a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
