💜 International Overdose Awareness Day: A Community Vigil 💜
Sunday, August 31st, 6–8 PM
Gregory L. David Plaza, Little Five Points, Atlanta
(next to the Clothing Warehouse — note: we’ll meet in the smaller adjacent plaza due to construction in Finley Plaza)
Join us as we come together to remember those we’ve needlessly lost to overdose. This quiet evening of reflection is a chance to share stories, photos, and memories of friends, family, and neighbors who left us too soon — but who remain forever in our hearts.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Whether you've lost someone or simply want to stand in solidarity, your presence matters.
🟣 We’ll have purple flags and pinwheels available to write the names of loved ones.
🚶 After gathering, we’ll walk a short distance down Euclid Ave to place the flags on the hill in front of Bass Lofts (across from Elmyr).
📸 A table will be set up for photographs and small mementos. Please bring anything you'd like to share in remembrance.
💜 Georgia Overdose Prevention will provide educational materials and free naloxone and test strips for anyone with loved ones at risk.
📣 We’ll also speak briefly about Georgia's 911 Good Samaritan protections. Your support makes a difference.
What Is International Overdose Awareness Day?
Observed every August 31st, this global day of remembrance honors those who have died or been injured by overdose. It offers comfort to families, breaks down the stigma of drug-related death, and spreads a crucial message: overdose is preventable.
Together, we can reduce harm, share hope, and remember those we've lost.
