Forest Stewardship training includes a series of classes held on Saturdays in October. The goal of the Forest Stewardship program is to introduce concepts for identifying plants, environmental effects of invasive plants, and methods of control for the everyday community steward. We hope that Forest Stewards will use what they learn to help lead volunteers in Forest Restoration in greenspaces where Trees Atlanta already works and in their own communities.
Participants will learn virtually with video lessons sent ahead of the Saturday classes and in-person at Ormewood Forest on Saturdays. The themes of each class are indicated below (and may change in response to class needs). Attendance at all four classes is required to receive your certificate of completion.
Saturday, October 4 (Ormewood Forest): Identifying Native and Invasive Plant Species: Morphology, Phytogeography, Phenology
Saturday, October 11 (Ormewood Forest): Invasive Plant Species: Why and How to Remove Invasive Plant Species
Saturday, October 18 (Ormewood Forest): Replanting with Natives: Understanding Ecological Interactions While Developing a Reforestation Plan
Saturday, October 25 (Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse): Certified Volunteer Webinar / How to Apply Forest Stewardship Experience
