Textiles & Tea with Rebecca Smith

Rebecca Smith’s weaving career began in Massachusetts, but she has lived and worked in her home studio in San Diego since 1996. Following a series of workshops with tapestry master Archie Brennan in 1999, Rebecca primarily wove tapestries for the next 20 years. During that period, she created a technique for free-standing tapestries that combined weaving with yarn and transparent seed beads. In 2018, Rebecca’s interest shifted to transparency weaving. Her work, both tapestries and transparencies, has been included in juried exhibitions throughout the U.S. Rebecca has taught workshops for guilds and conferences throughout the country. her upcoming book, Transparency Weaving, will be published by Schiffer Publishing in 2026. Rebecca is a member of California Fibers, a juried group of professional fiber artists. Additionally, she serves as a Board member and active leader of the San Diego Creative Weavers’ Guild.
