About the event

North Atlantic Right Whales
Join us as Emily Volmar discusses North Atlantic Right Whales (NARWs) the most endangered whale species on the planet, with only about 350 individuals remaining.

In 2023/2024, Emily was researching NARWs with a specific focus on an individual named Staccato. She died in 1999 in Cape Cod Bay, and her remains are stored at UMass Amherst. Since at least 2017, NARWs have been found dead in Cape Cod Bay and Gulf of Maine areas more than anywhere else along their migration paths. Emily will discuss why this might be, what can be done to help, why right whales are important, and the life story of Staccato.

You are welcome to join us in-person at 100 Main St. Athol - no registration needed. The presentation will be broadcasted on Zoom as well. Use this link to register for the Zoom webinar: https://atholbirdclub.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=245e155b62c6bfcdf940c2ac2&id=16c86a9842&e=b9147ea399
