First Friday at First "LIVE"- Jazz 2025 - Sample This

Join us in October when First Friday presents Sample This! Few things are more satisfying than a good jazz collaboration. Inherently a genre of improvisation and spontaneous interaction, Sample This brings Atlanta's finest to the First Friday stage by blending these talented musicians' styles and approaches to the music:

• Robert Boone, drums, tours the world with the Legendary Count Basie Orchestra. He is a Grammy winner and a music instructor at Georgia State University. He holds a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from Florida State University.
• Vinny D'Agostino, Sax, clarinet, flute, is an Atlanta-based multi-instrumentalist with credits in classical, jazz, funk, soul, pop, and rock. he has played with greats in the music industry, including Brain Wilson, Arethat Franklin, the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
• Grant Green, Jr., guitar, is the son of legendary jazz guitarist Grant Green. Green was influenced by his father and the stream of musicians that streamed through his childhood home in Detroit. His neighbors included Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and even the legend Miles Davis, all of whom visited his home for jam sessions.
• Greg Satterthwaite, piano Jamaican-born jazz pianist Greg Satterthwaite is an artist whose work is multifaceted, melodic, soulful, and sophisticated. Bringing an energy and touch to the piano that has become his signature sound, Satterthwaite creates music that infuses his Afro-Caribbean roots with the jazz tradition.
• Khari Kabral Simmons, bass, is a Grammy-winning bassist whose roots include soul, house, and jazz music. He toured the world India Arie, which included many national television appearances. Born in New York and now calling Atlanta home, Simmons' musical goal is to create "upbeat, soulful music."

The public is invited for great music, dinner, fun, and fellowship. (Please note: No outside food or alcohol is permitted.) Doors open at 6:00 PM. Seating is limited. The availability of tickets at the door are based upon advanced ticket and table sales. Season Ticket holders are guaranteed seating. General Admission tickets are $25, student tickets are $10 each with student identification (show ID at the door). Reserved tables of 8 are $200. Prices for dinner range from $4.00 to $10.00. Funds raised at church-based events will be used to support other church programming and ministries.

Updated Parking Information- PARKING IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AT THE CARE LOT ON ELLIS STREET OR GSU LOT.

1. HANDICAPPED PARKING: Guests with handicapped parking permits visible will be allowed to park in the front or rear of the Commons, as spaces are limited.
2. MAIN CHURCH LOT: Parking for guests/volunteers will continue to be available in the main church lot, where you will access the Commons via the back gate and staircase.
3. ADDITIONAL PARKING: Alternate parking with be available at the corner parking of John Wesley Dobbs and Courtland Street (across from First Church). No shuttle will be available. You may walk to Ellis Street and turn right, or access the Commons via the back gate and staircase of the MAIN CHURCH LOT.

COVID-19 Protocols

As part of our return to First Friday at First events, we are anxious to provide a safe and comfortable environment given current COVID-19 guidelines. We continue to reduce the number of seats per table and wearing of masks indoors is encouraged.

To attend our concerts, we ask that you stay at home if you are currently suffering from any of the following symptoms: fever, respiratory illness, cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath.
