About the event

Auditions for What the Constitution Means to Me
What the Constitution Means to Me
Written by Heidi Schreck
Directed by Jenni Newton
Sunday, December 7th at 6:00pm
Monday, December 8th at 7:30pm

Kick off 2025 with this poignant three-person play that takes the audience on an examination of the US Constitution through the lens of Heidi looking back on her years as a teen competitor in patriotic debates. Playwright Heidi Schreck, asks whether this historic document should still be used as the base of our nation with wit while examining its creation from racial and gender biases. The play ends with a debate (requiring some improv) between Heidi and a teen debater about whether to get rid of the constitution or not. The audience decides the outcome and leaves with their own copies of The Constitution.

Roles include:
HEIDI - adult woman, portrays her teen & adult self, recounts personal experiences
LEGIONNAIRE - adult man, leader of the Veterans Hall debate competition
DEBATER - teen girl

Auditionees should arrive 10 minutes early and bring a list of conflicts between now and February 7th. All levels are welcome to participate, headshots and resumes are welcome, but not required. Please come to the audition with a willingness to play and make big, bold choices.

NEW IN 2026: Actors will receive a $100 stipend, payable at the end of the show's run.

About the Show:
Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful and achingly human new play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.

If you wish to audition, but are not available for the scheduled dates, please contact the theater BEFORE DECEMBER 7th to make other arrangements.
