9/11 Memorial Walk
This September 11th, the Ashley-Hudson Volunteer Fire Department invites our fellow first responders — to join us for a 2.6-mile walk from our station to Hardy Park and back.
Why 2.6 miles?
Because that’s roughly 5,200 to 6,000 steps — representing not only the 2,977 lives lost on 9/11 but also the countless family members and loved ones left behind who carry their memories every day.
We call on firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, dispatchers, military, active or retired — come walk with us in solidarity and remembrance.
Date: September 11th
Meet-up: Between 8:00 and 8:30 AM
Walk starts promptly at 8:46 AM — the exact time the first plane struck the North Tower.
Prior to the walk, we will observe a moment of silence.
Full PPE is encouraged but not required.
Together, let’s take these steps to honor both the victims and their families, reflecting on sacrifice, courage, and the enduring strength of our community.
Each step honors a life lost and a family forever changed.
Each step ensures we never forget.
