We invite all (open to any political view or faith) to a 15 minute peace & unity candle vigil in remembrance of Charlie Kirk tomorrow night, Sept. 18th, 7:30 pm on the sidewalk of 6 Cherry St., Ashland (Near the Corner Spot). The 1st Speaker will be Former Selectboard member John Kirwan. Please bring a candle. Attendees are invited to join us in this prayer tomorrow:
"Heavenly Father,
We gather before You tonight with heavy hearts - shaken by the recent violence & the death of Charlie Kirk at UVU. Above all, we lift his wife & two children to You. Bring deep comfort in their time of grief. Give strength to his loved ones as they walk through sorrow. Grant peace to all who cherished him as they bear the shock & weight of this moment.
We honor his life and legacy. Thank You for the impact he made. May his influence continue to inspire many toward truth & courage. We ask a special blessing over his wife and children—surround them with Your love, give them courage for tomorrow, & grant them strength in the days, weeks, & months to come. Let Your promise be true for them: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
And now, Lord—we pause in a moment of silence. We hold his family in our hearts, lifting them to You in reverence and love.
Father, we need your help to let go of bitterness, anger, vengeful thoughts, and the hateful words we too often speak. Instead, teach us to hold tightly to Matthew 5:44: “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Give us courage to live this out—not just in words, but in deeds that reflect Your mercy.
Forgive us for letting political disagreements blind us. Forgive us for seeing enemies instead of people made in Your image. Forgive us for clinging to anger when we should have sought peace, for canceling when we should have extended mercy.
We pray for our Ashland Leaders, the Select Board, Town Manager Michael Herbert, Police Chief Rossi, grant them wisdom to govern with integrity, humility, and compassion.
Amen"
