Celebration of Ackermann Nature Preserve- Westmoreland County, PA

Join OGFN for a ceremony to welcome the Ackerman Preserve into the robust Network of Pennsylvania’s old-growth forests. A celebratory hike will follow! A short hike on level ground will be followed by an optional extension of the hike to explore the steeper trails of the Preserve. If you plan to hike please wear comfortable, sturdy shoes, dress for protection from ticks, and bring water.

The 58-acre preserve is dominated by mixed hardwoods including sugar maple, red maple, red oak, and American beech. Approximately 26-acres of the forest is considered old-growth.

Please carpool if you can as parking is limited. Look for the green sign for the Preserve, pull into the modest, grassy parking area, and leave room for other cars to comfortably maneuver.
