This fall, the Arcata Playhouse invites young artists to explore their creativity in a fun, supportive environment! From September through November, students can dive into hands-on after school workshops led by professional teaching artists.
π Workshop offerings include:
πΆ Musical Storytelling (Mondays)β Explore the connections between literature, theater, music, and stagecraft. This program is an eight-week journey of adapting a piece of childrenβs literature into a short play, learning a set instrumental piece on xylophones, improvising instrumental sound effects, composing a musical character theme, creating sets and costuming, and presenting the final creation to parents on the last day of class. This offering will be guided by Teresa Walker, bringing with her over a decade of joyful experience in childrenβs theater.
π Mask Making (Tuesdays)β Students will learn mask history and etiquette, while designing, sculpting, painting, and developing characters.
ποΈ Drawing & Painting (Wednesdays)β Students will learn to use shapes, shading practices, and color theory to make 3D art.
