About the event

Chaney Lecture Series - Medieval Jewish Art and its Theriomorphs
The William Chaney Lecture Series resumes with Dr. Elina Gertsman and her talk "Heady Stuff: Medieval Jewish Art and its Theriomorphs" on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m. in the Wriston Auditorium.

In the early thirteenth century, medieval Hebrew books began featuring extraordinary figures: humans with animal heads. Dr. Gertsman's talk will address this phenomenon, using it as an entry point into the rich, imaginative ecology of the medieval Ashkenazic universe.

A reception will follow Dr. Gertsman's talk.

This event is free and open to the public; all are welcome!

Dr. Gertsman is the Distinguished University Professor, Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities, and Professor of Medieval Art at Case Western University. She is a prolific scholar who writes on fascinating topics.
