Before Dawn is the synth-rock brainchild of Rob and Kate Houle, currently based in Appleton, Wisconsin. With roots stretching from the salty shores of Florida to a full decade in weirdo Austin, TX, and a three-year nomadic stint in sunny Los Angeles, Before Dawn has cultivated a sound that’s as eclectic as their journey. Theater majors who first crossed paths at a college party, Rob and Kate shared passions for music, theater, and adventure; this has been the bedrock of their creative partnership. Spanning two decades and touring heavily in the mid-aughts (2024 is indeed the 20th year of Before Dawn), Before Dawn’s current discography includes two full-length albums, two EPs, and several singles, showcasing their evolution and enduring appeal in the alternative and post-punk landscape.
During the indie-sleaze era’s peak in Austin, Rob and Kate launched Before Dawn, aiming to deliver a sweaty, theatrical, high-energy, stadium-rock experience in the intimate setting of a duo performance. Inspired by bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, The Faint, Bloc Party, Ghostland Observatory, Yacht, Santigold, DePeche Mode, Muse and The Killers their music and live show offers a cathartic escape meant to ignite dance floors. Shawn Petsche, a promoter at Sled Island Music Festival, describes them as a “hook and synth-laden wall of sound” capable of sparking a dance party at a moment’s notice. Today, with the addition of drummer Nathan Klein, their live performances are more captivating and hard-hitting than ever.
Scorched Waves, is an indie rock sensation hailing from Stevens Point, WI. The band, comprising Tyler Armstrong (Guitar), Al Vuorinen (Bass), Jaren Wojcik (Keyboards & Auxiliary Percussion), Damian Kessler (Drums), and Tiernan Brinkman (Vocals), bring a dynamic energy born from their diverse touring experiences. From their beginnings in intimate basements to iconic venues like Chicago's Navy Pier, 7th Street Entry at First Avenue in Minneapolis, Mile of Music Festival in Appleton, and Milwaukee's Summerfest. Scorched Waves leaves an indelible mark with their powerful performances.

The quintet has comparable sounds to the likes of classic indie bands such as Arctic Monkeys and The Killers, as well as newly emerging groups such as I Don't Know How But They Found Me and The Backseat Lovers with their introspective songwriting, groovy riffs, moody lyrics, and expressive arrangements offering a unique blend of Indie/Alternative Rock, Post Punk, and Dance Rock.
