About the event

Culinary Historians | A History of Cider
For the past 2000 years, cider has been an essential part of life in the apple and pear growing regions of the western world. Whether used as sweet cider, hard cider, vinegar, brandy, applejack, or syrup, turning apples and pears into cider has been a key way to preserve these important fruits. Patrick McCauley, a local historian, apple grower and award-winning cidermaker in Ann Arbor, will trace the history of cider and explain why its production plummeted globally between 1900 and 1950, then call on his personal experience in describing the current revival of this ancient beverage.

This event is in partnership with the Culinary Historians of Ann Arbor.
