Join Little Fox Watercolors for an in-person watercolor workshop focused on simplicity, technique, and curiosity… not perfection.
The first class in an ongoing series, Paint It Gray is designed for absolute beginners and returning creatives who want a low-pressure re-introduction to watercolor or a way to establish a regular practice.
Why monochrome?
This class is taught using a single rich pigment: Payne’s Gray. By removing color theory and large composition planning, we focus on how paint, water, and paper interact, one mark at a time.
What we’ll cover:
We’ll begin with technique exercises on swatches and build toward small, 2”x3” guided, autonomous mini paintings united by shared “painting prompts” using the techniques below:
• Flat and gradient washes
• Wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and dry brush techniques
• Positive vs. negative space
• Building value using water (Ink / Milk / Tea)
The painting prompts are concept-based painting guidelines that encourage exploration and autonomy, with the understanding that with watercolor, the water is often in the driver’s seat.
You’ll leave with multiple finished pieces that reflect your favorite techniques from the session.
This workshop is for:
• Absolute beginners
• Artists curious about watercolor
• Creatives seeking a calm, low-pressure experience
• Anyone who enjoys working small and learning through observation and experimentation
Materials
All materials are provided, including professional-grade paint, paper, and a round brush.
Materials are personally curated by the artist behind Little Fox Watercolors, and the brush is yours to keep as a thank-you for participating.
Optional: Save a few inspiration or reference photos on your phone to use during class. We’ll practice viewing images through light, dark, and essential shapes, minimalist style.
Registration & Details
• Registration: $55
• Space is intentionally limited to keep the experience relaxed and personal
• April 12 standby slots are full
Materials are purchased and prepared at the time of registration, so refunds are not possible. That said, life (and snow) happens and the goal is to get you painting. If you need to miss class, you may request a standby spot for a future Paint It Gray date.
