About the event

"Death Of A Wealthy Slave" with Storyteller Denise Page

The Andover Public Library welcomes CT storyteller, Denise Manning Keyes Page to the library on Tuesday, October 28th at 6PM. Ms. Page will tell us the story about her ancestor, John Wesley Manning, an enslaved man in Edenton, NC who purchased his freedom and moved to New Haven, registered a patent for his invention, bought property, and sent two of his sons to Yale University, from which they graduated in 1880 and 1881. Ms. Page will tell us about Mr. Manning's fascinating "rags to riches" story during this presentation.
