Ever thought about playing a sport that's out of the ordinary? Well now you have a chance to try Curling. It's an Olympic sport played on specially treated ice in which you push a 42 pound stone about 150 feet to a target to score points. Sounds simple, right? Turns out there's a lot to it: strategy like chess, plenty of physical energy expenditure to push the stone and to sweep to affect the stone's movement and athletic skills that come from practice and repetition. Anyone can do it! We have an arena right in Madison County in Anderson and we have created a Youth Program to develop young curlers, now in our second year. It's amazing fun, really good exercise, great for teamwork and who knows, a future US Champion or an Olympian could come from right here. The sooner you start, the better!
Our Circle City Curling Youth Program will be run by Geoff Randolph, Todd Shelton, and Jim Gangnon, each with a lot of experience as teachers and who love to work with youth. We will register boys and girls ages 12-18 and we will divide those who register into age groups that make sense. We'll meet once a week on Thursday after school from 4:30-6p and on Saturday mornings 10a-12p starting in late September and ending in mid December. The Thursday weekday sessions will focus on learning the fundamentals, developing skills, and understanding the game, including its culture and etiquette. We will make the drills fun, energetic and lively. The Saturday sessions will be used to compete in actual Curling games. Come join us!
This program is sponsored by Community in Motion, a program of Community Hospital Anderson Foundation and is currently FREE for all participants.
