About Our Speakers:

Brad Rateike is the Founding Principal of BAR Communications where he has directed public relations strategy and message development for corporate, government and nonprofit clients in the Midwest and in Washington, D.C. since 2010. Brad has created and managed public affairs campaigns for Fortune 50 companies in addition to directing media relations and grassroots outreach for small businesses and startup companies.

Brad took a hiatus from the firm in 2016 to serve as a communications and policy advisor for the Donald J. Trump for President Campaign and the Trump/Pence Presidential Transition Team. After being recruited to join the White House Office of Communications, Brad served as the director of Cabinet communications where he coordinated message strategy and rollout of Presidential priorities with Federal agencies in addition to assisting agencies with crisis management. Additionally, Brad served as the communications lead in assisting Cabinet nominees through the Senate confirmation process.

Prior to founding the firm, Brad served for five years as deputy press secretary and policy director for former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels. In that role, he handled media outreach and worked with state agencies and external stakeholder groups on grassroots initiatives to advance the governor’s legislative agenda.

In November 2021, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb appointed Brad to the White River State Park Development Commission. He is also a contributing columnist on business and political issues for the Indianapolis Business Journal and is a member of the Franklin College Board of Trustees. He also served in a communications leadership role on the Local Organizing Committee for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials – Swimming. He was most recently appointed as a strategic vice chair for the Mike Braun Indiana Governor transition team.

Brad was selected as a member of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series Class XLI and was recognized as a member of the Indianapolis Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” Class of 2020. He was most recently recognized as an honoree for IBJ Media’s Indiana 250, a list of the state’s most influential and impactful leaders.

Brad served as an organizational development volunteer in the United States Peace Corps and has experience in trade association management. He received a bachelor’s degree in English from Franklin College, where he was president of the student body. He is married to Lawren Mills, chair of the public affairs practice group at Ice Miller LLP.

Pete Seat is more than a guy with a rhyming name. The only child of immigrant parents, he is a former White House spokesman, nationally recognized political commentator, author, columnist and adjunct instructor on the American Presidency at the University of Arizona. He brings all these experiences together to offer clients best-in-class consulting in media and public speaking coaching, public relations, crisis communications, brand management and grassroots/issue advocacy.

As a communications strategist, Pete has formally and informally devised comprehensive communications and messaging plans, drafted remarks and statements, prepped for media interviews and served as a spokesman for, among others, a president of the United States, governors, senators and business leaders. Highlights include: communications director on the historic 106-day gubernatorial campaign of Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb; communications director for former Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats’ victorious 2010 U.S. Senate campaign; and deputy assistant press secretary to President George W. Bush where Pete worked alongside press secretaries Tony Snow and Dana Perino and logged thousands of miles aboard Air Force One.

A respected national political commentator and analyst, Pete has made more than 250+ live appearances on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, NewsNation and NewsMax combined; regularly speaks at national and international conferences and events, including most recently in New York City, Charlotte, San Antonio, Brussels and Dubrovnik, Croatia; is the author of the book The War on Millennials; a member of the American Enterprise Institute’s Leadership Network (Spring ’18 Class); a Council on Foreign Relations Term Member; an Atlantic Council Millennium Fellow (2018 Class); a two-time alumni of the American Council of Young Political Leaders (India '15; North Macedonia '24); and a columnist whose work has been published by Politico, CNN.com, MSNBC.com, USA Today and Newsweek.

Lucy Powers is the Chief of Staff for BAR Communications, bringing over eight years of experience in strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Before joining the BAR team, Lucy served as the Advisor to White House Management and Administration, providing strategic guidance as the White House established its operations, travel, finance, and facilities processes.

As Director of Event Programming on the Donald J. Trump for President 2024 campaign, Lucy leveraged campaign strategy and polling data to design and execute targeted event programs, employing a team of over 20 campaign staff nationwide to ensure seamless communication and cohesive event execution. Lucy also served in President Trump’s first administration in strategic operations roles at both the White House and the Department of Energy.

Lucy attended Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, where her passion for civic engagement began. Originally from Bloomington, she is excited to be home in Indiana and looks forward to spending more time with family and friends.
