Reading to Pets: Calhoun Academy of the Arts:

Anderson County PAWS is excited to host a unique literacy and compassion event where Calhoun Academy students will read aloud to our adoptable dogs.

In the weeks leading up to the visit, students practice reading their favorite books and challenge themselves to move up at least one reading level. On event day, they’ll share stories with the dogs — providing enrichment, comfort, and socialization for pets waiting for their forever homes.

This program not only builds confidence and motivation for young readers, but also gives our dogs extra exposure to the community. In past visits, several of the dogs the children read to have found loving homes.
