Voices for the Land: Forrest King-Cortes on Community Conservation

POSTPONED! THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD ON OCTOBER 1! STAY TUNED. Community-centered conservation is a relationship-building practice that engages communities in all aspects of land conservation. When approached thoughtfully, this practice can lead to deep, lasting conservation outcomes that promote the health, resilience, and cultural vitality of communities while improving access to and strengthening relationships between people and the land.

This program is the second of Kestrel’s 2025 “Voices for the Land” Online Speaker Series to highlight diverse perspectives on the land, nature, and community. Join us for a presentation by Forrest King-Cortes of the Land Trust Alliance (LTA), who will share how the Alliance is advancing the practice of community-centered conservation and will highlight local and national examples of this work. He will also offer steps that conservation supporters can take to create community-centered spaces and places.

Forrest King-Cortes is the director of community-centered conservation at the Land Trust Alliance. His work centers equity and prioritizes the creation of inclusive and inviting spaces and places. He has over 10 years of experience working toward a more people-centric and relationship-focused conservation future at local, regional, and national scales. While Forrest holds a degree in wildlife ecology and management, he often learns best from being on trails, putting his hands in the soil, and spending time learning with communities.
