Description:
Join us in Boston, MA on Saturday, October 18 for the Technique & Tempo workshop with Kyler Mckessy and Karen Turman!
This 2-class workshop will focus on refining your Lindy Hop and Charleston technique, with an emphasis on lead-follow connection across a range of tempos. Expect a mix of in-depth instruction and guided practice, giving you time to absorb new concepts, receive personal feedback from the instructors, and try things out with friends. You'll walk away with skills you can immediately use on the social floor—plus new ideas to reflect on and develop over time.

Meet the Instructors!
*Kyler McKessy*: Kyler (he/him) is an internationally-tolerated Lindy Hop and Vernacular Jazz dancer from Baltimore, Maryland. He first got his claws into the scene shortly post-pandemic and has absolutely refused to exit a dance floor since. An ambi-dancer since birth, Kyler values clear and precise lead and follow mechanics as a pathway to self expression both on the floor and in the classroom, and strives to use his experience in both roles to craft classes that offer something tangible to all students. On the contest floor, Kyler has earned multiple titles from Camp Hollywood, Herrang Dance Camp, and more, but his heart lies with his local scene at the Mobtown Ballroom, where he teaches and DJs regularly. When not dancing, he can be found in a labcoat at Johns Hopkins where he’s pursuing a PhD in human genetics (ask him about his research if you need to fall asleep quickly!). Find him @kylermckessy on Instagram and whatever other platforms people use these days.
*Karen Turman*: Karen (she/her) was first seen on stage at age 9 performing a tap dance to "Lollipop" in a striped leotard and has been dancing ever since. She discovered Lindy Hop during the Swing craze in 1998 and has never looked back. She has since traveled all over the country and throughout Europe to perform, compete, and teach at international events. She has earned titles competing at events such as Lindy Focus, the Lone Star Championships, the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, the Boston Tea Party, the U.S. Open, and Camp Jitterbug. She feels most honored to have received the first ever "Spirit of Lindy Hop" awards at both Camp Jitterbug in Seattle, WA (2005), and the International Lindy Hop Championships in Washington, D.C. (2010). Karen currently teaches regularly with Boston Lindy Hop and in Providence, RI.
