Opening Reception at Rigo Peralta Gallery
Two-Artist Exhibit Juxtaposes Sleek Marble and Alabaster Sculptures with Surreal Contemporary Paintings
"Elegance in Stone," a two-artist show at the Rigo Peralta Studio, 1601 West Chew Street, Allentown, September 20 to October 24, combines a series of large surreal contemporary paintings by Rigo Peralta with elegant marble, stone, and alabaster sculptures by Art Wells.
An opening reception will be held Saturday, September 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A closing reception is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2025.
Both artists are noted internationally for their works depicting classic figurative subjects. Meanwhile, both the painter and the sculptor are also recognized for their nod to the use of abstract and contemporary elements as well.

When I first became familiar with Art Wells and his work, I invited him to combine his sleek stone sculptures to juxtapose my most recent abstract paintings as an important direction for the gallery," says Peralta, whose figurative works are in private and public collections internationally, including a large portrait titled, “Dona Negra” purchased by the Allentown Art Museum in 2019.
Wells resided most of his life in the Las Vegas area and, after graduating cum laude from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he was employed as a professional drummer working for a multitude of top-performing bands in the world.
Along his creative path, Wells became enthralled with classical figurative sculptures and began his road as a self-taught sculptor that would eventually grab the attention of peers across the globe. Moving to Vermont, he worked for the Eric Oberg studio carving granite monuments. He and his wife relocated to Dallas, where he not only taught sculpture but also discovered the high-end market for one-of-a-kind stone decor pieces for the residential and commercial markets. Since 2020, Wells and his wife Virginia reside in the Pocono area.
Meanwhile, Peralta, who is a noted regional contemporary artist in the Lehigh Valley and beyond, is expanding his significant works in figurative and realistic subjects. An internationally noted painter, Peralta hails from the Dominican Republic, and lived and worked in the arts in Brooklyn before relocating to the Allentown area in the early 2000’s. His paintings are in scores of private and public collections and museums, including the National Museum in Washington, DC, and the Allentown Art Museum.
A short list of Wells’ public art works includes: Longview Museum of Fine Art, Longview, TX. Marble sculpture in their permanent collection; City of Las Vegas, NV, Mirabelli Community Center.
