Join us for a hands-on workshop celebrating the autumn bounty of our local hedgerows! Tickets for this event are pay-as-you-feel on the day, with no upfront cost, but pre booking is essential.
About This Workshop
As we celebrate Apple Day, we’ll explore the incredible forgotten flavours of our countryside hedgerows. This guided workshop will teach you to transform abundant autumn treasures within the Rosaceae family, including hawthorns, rosehips, blackberries and apples – into delicious homemade treats. We’ll also be exploring the use of hedgerow harvests in our local community, so there will be plenty of time to share your own ideas and stories too!
- Syrup-Making Fundamentals to make your own nourishing, flavoursome cordials and drizzles.
- Understanding the properties of your hedgerow harvest from the earthy, warming traditional medicinal properties or hawthorn to the naturally sweet boost of vitamin C from rosehips.
- Proper sterilisation and bottling techniques for long-lasting syrups
- Creative uses: cocktails, desserts, breakfast treats, and medicinal tonics
Apple Day Connection
This workshop perfectly complements Apple Day celebrations, showcasing how apples and their hedgerow companions have been transformed into syrups and preserves for centuries. You’ll discover traditional syrup-making techniques while learning to create delicious, natural alternatives to shop-bought cordials and syrups.
Weather Policy: This workshop runs rain or shine! We have covered areas available, and cooking outdoors in all weather is part of the authentic experience.
Please note: This workshop involves working with hot liquids and kitchen equipment. Participants should inform the instructor of any allergies or dietary requirements.
