Another focus is business process automation, including exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI), while creating policies to guard against any prospective risks. The division already is integrating bots into its enterprise resource planning system.

Info: The state of Tennessee recently released its updated Tennessee Resiliency Plan, outlining its planned use of $3.725 billion in funds awarded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
Tennessee’s CIO and head of the Strategic Technology Solutions (STS) division, which provides planning, resources, execution and coordination to manage the information systems needs of all state agencies, told govtech.com there currently are numerous large legacy modernization projects under way. The modernization covers everything from an overhaul of the state’s unemployment insurance system to replacing its child welfare system, as well as migrating existing legacy applications to the cloud, paid for with ARPA funding.
Our panel will discuss the modernization initiatives currently being taken and the opportunities for further projects in the near and mid-term future.
Info: The State of Tennessee is looking to use business process automation (BPA) to address many of the organizational and infrastructure needs revealed during the Covid-19 pandemic. As its Tennessee Resiliency Plan stated, “The hasty transition to working from home showed that we need to rapidly modernize and expand our infrastructure to support the new demands, increase scalability, and grow our citizen-facing services.”
The Strategic Technology Solutions (STS) division of the Finance & Administration Department is looking to gain greater efficiencies in business process, expanded workforce capabilities, efficiencies for the state’s taxpayers, and enhanced citizen experiences.
Our panel will discuss the BPA initiatives currently being taken, the metrics being used to track progress, and what new opportunities for improvement they may present.
Info: Tennessee has been exploring how to utilize artificial intelligence, expanding prospective use cases for the technology while simultaneously developing policies to guard against associated risks.
Various agencies within the state government have been using AI-enabled chatbots since the pandemic to help with the increased volume of inquiries and help requests. The Strategic Technology Solutions (STS) division is aiming to expand AI capabilities this year, and has already started the process of integrating bots into its ERP system.
Our panel will discuss the work being done on a digital government strategy for Tennessee, the role that AI can play in executing that vision, and the safeguards under discussion to mitigate any risks such a new technology may offer.
