About the event

Elementary Science at the Library
Fridays @ 10:30 AM, join my kids & I for some science!

It'll be a multisensory, discussion-based science activity. Each meeting will include videos and one or two hands-on activities.

Lessons designed for ages 5-9: 1st and 3rd Fridays (5th if needed)
Lessons designed for ages 7-11: 2nd and 4th Fridays

Younger/older siblings are welcome to attend on any day as the activities can be skill-adjusted as needed.

Not a drop-off meetup.
Some activities might require help from individual caregivers.

No need to sign up ahead of time. We'll just aim to be at the library every Friday morning working on our science lessons and if others show up then the more the merrier! (I'll prep a few extra supplies each time just in case)

We're going to aim to be done under an hour, but you're free to hang out and have fun for as long as you'd like! I'll probably start packing things up a bit after 12:00. There's a large park right behind the library if you wanted to bring food to picnic afterwards!

This month we're continuing our Earth Sciences units
5-9 age group is Erosion & Earth's Surface
7-11 age group is Weather & Climate

---

Friday, October 3:
Ages 5-9 group
Erosion & Earth’s Surface: Rocks, Sand, Erosion
**Why is there sand at the beach?**

In this lesson, students investigate the effects of rocks tumbling in a river. Based on their observations, they construct an explanation for why there is sand at a beach. In the activity, Rocking the River, students pretend to be a river and tear up pieces of construction paper to model what happens to rocks as they travel along the river.

*please note* this isn't being advertised as a "class" as I am not really a trained teacher. Just a homeschool mama looking for science with friends! We'll use an open-and-go system (Mystery Science) to do most of the teaching, and I'll do the supply prep and facilitate group discussions.
