About the event

The Mourning of Ellen

Join the Stanly County Historical Society for this encore event honoring the memory of Ellen Milton Snuggs. The rooms of the 1852 Isaiah Snuggs House will be decorated as they would have been following Ellen's untimely passing. Guests will experience Victorian mourning rituals such as draping mirrors and pictures in black, view a hair wreath and locket with Ellen's hair on loan from the Stanly County Museum and learn other Victorian mourning superstitions & rituals. Cash donations will be accepted at the door.
