Trans Day of Remembrance is an annual day of recognizing trans folks who left this world too soon. It is a time for the community, including allies, to come together; to mourn and honor the lives of those lost to violence, and to find vigil and comfort with each other. TDOR is also a time to educate, and to heal.
This event will begin with a brief introduction to the history and purpose of TDOR, followed by a silent lighting of 53 candles representing lives lost this year, and a time for community members to share thoughts, poetry, sing or memories. The event will culminate with a candlelight procession on the winding pathways surrounding the sanctuary.
There will be music provided by a phenomenal local all trans band AUTUMN AND THE AFTERTHOUGHTS, hot beverages and soup, and a chance for community members to create momentos to place at the central memorial decorated with candles and forget-me-nots representing lives lost this year, or the memorial display for members of out own community we've lost in recent years.
There will also be opportunities for community members to socialize. Feel free to stay for the whole event of stop by to pay your respects.
Follow the signs to the sanctuary. We look forward to seeing you all. This event is being held in the sanctuary, but it is a trauma informed event, focused solely on TDOR.
