Full Throttle into a New Era
Gerald Albright, the nine-time Grammy-nominated saxophonist, continues to innovate and lead in the contemporary urban jazz scene decades after his debut. The versatile artist has continued to blaze a path as an independent musician under his own record label, Bright Music Records, an endeavor that uniquely defines his artistic vision.
Albright's recent focus has been on his G-Stream series of EPs, a hands-on project that showcases his multifaceted talents as a producer, songwriter, and engineer.
G-Stream 3 - Full Throttle: Released in 2024, this EP continues the series with Albright's signature energy. He plays multiple instruments, including alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, bass guitar, and flutes. The project features collaborations with top-tier musicians such as James "JRob" Roberson, Chris Davis, and Rick Watford.
G-Stream 2 - Turn It Up: The second installment in the series was released in 2022.
G-Stream: The series began in 2020 with the release of the first EP.
A Legacy of Innovation
After a lifetime in Southern California, Albright moved to Colorado, a change he commemorated with his 2006 album New Beginnings. Following decades on major labels, he recognized that the industry's changing landscape meant it was time to take control of his own musical destiny. Inspired by his loyal and global fanbase, he launched Bright Music Records to release his own projects and establish a legacy for his family.
A Storied Career
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Albright's musical journey began early. He was an accomplished saxophonist before enrolling at the University of Redlands, where he also switched to bass guitar after seeing Louis Johnson perform. This duality became his trademark as he worked as a session and touring musician throughout the 1980s for legends like Anita Baker, The Temptations, Whitney Houston, and Phil Collins. His solo career began with his 1987 debut, Just Between Us. Since then, he has been a consistent force in the smooth jazz genre, releasing chart-topping albums and participating in all-star tours like Guitars & Saxes. Throughout his career, Albright has enjoyed successful collaborations, including:
24/7: A hit with guitarist Norman Brown, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album in 2013.
Summer Horns: A Grammy-nominated project with Dave Koz and Friends, including Mindi Abair and Richard Elliot.
On the Road
Albright continues to tour extensively, bringing his signature blend of contemporary jazz, R&B, and funk to audiences worldwide. Whether performing live or recording in the studio, Albright remains dedicated to taking his listeners on a "musical journey with different textures, rhythms, chord progressions and moods". He remains in a good place in his life and continues to deliver "nothing but the best" with each new project.
