After his lauded performance of Gershwin's Piano Concerto with the Aiken Symphony in 2022, Spanish-Dutch pianist Albert Cano Smit is brought back for this epic program of Beethoven's finest. Both works come from the composer's "heroic" middle period when he developed a unique voice, creating musical narratives filled with drama and emotional depth. Beethoven's monumental Fifth Symphony begins with the famous 4-note "fate" motive - probably the most famous musical fragment of all time. The symphony is paired with another famous "fifth" - the fifth and final piano concerto - performed by Smit.
