“Forest and stream and rock and all the elements of structure are combined so quietly that really you listen not to any noise whatsoever although the music of the stream is there. But you listen to Fallingwater the way you listen to the quiet of the country…”-Frank Lloyd Wright, Talk to the Taliesin Fellowship, May 1, 1955
In this Circle of Trust retreat, you’ll be invited to listen deeply to your own inner teacher within a trustworthy space. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture and its integration of inner and outer worlds, we’ll explore our own inner and outer landscapes and open pathways for greater congruence, authenticity, and flow in our lives. Like Fallingwater, where structure and nature exist in a seamless dialogue, we will listen for the ways our inner truth seeks expression in the outer world, not through force or rigid design, but through the organic unfolding of what is present within us.
You’ll spend three nights at the beautiful Laurelville Retreat Center in the Laurel Highlands of Southwestern PA, just over an hour from the Pittsburgh International Airport. In addition to the serenity and beauty of the Laurel Highlands in peak autumn colors, outings to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob will make this an unforgettable experience.
In order to create this welcoming space, we lean in to the Practices of the Courage & Renewal Approach®
*Creating spaces that are open and hospitable, but resource-rich and charged with expectancy
*Committing to no fixing, advising, “saving” or correcting one another
*Asking honest, open questions to “hear each other into speech”
*Exploring the intersection of the universal stories of human experience with the personal stories of our lives
*Using multiple modes of reflection so everyone can find his or her place and pace
*Honoring confidentiality
Guided by the Courage & Renewal® approach, we create a sacred, confidential space in which to do our own inner work in solitude and community. This retreat will include Clearness Committees, a powerful two-hour discernment process from the Quaker tradition, where one person who wishes to think more deeply about an issue has an opportunity to be the “focus person” while a “committee” of four to six others listen and ask open, honest questions. Both focus person and committee members share a profound experience in this unique way of supporting another human being together in community.
