Pub Talks, our speaker series in collaboration with Seven & One Bookstore, was such a hit this summer that we’re extending the series into the fall with three additional dates! Each event invites a local expert to share meaningful ideas in a relaxed setting at Grain Theory—followed by open Q&A, good food, and cold beer. Whether you're here to learn something new or just love a good conversation, Pub Talks is for you.
“Habitat for Humanity and Affordable Homeownership”
Affordable housing is one of the hardest problems to solve, yet it shapes the future of every community. After a decade in Abilene’s nonprofits, Rosten now leads our local Habitat for Humanity and has seen how even the biggest solutions can become tangled in complexity. Join us for this talk as he unpacks what’s really standing in the way of affordable homeownership—and what it will take to change it.
Rosten Callarman has served as Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Abilene since 2021. A former minister, his time in the nonprofit world has included community development in low-income neighborhoods, working with survivors of domestic violence, and creating affordable housing solutions for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. He is married to Laura and father to Asher, Evangeline, and Genevieve. In his spare time, he enjoys songwriting, weightlifting, and smoking meat.
Bonus for attendees: Our Pour-Your-Own Beer Wall, located inside The Blakeley, is 20% off during Pub Talks! If you’re attending the event, just grab a card from the bartender up front to activate the wall. Beer is charged by the ounce. ($30 refundable card deposit required)
Come early for food and drinks, stay late to keep the conversation going.
See you at Pub Talks.
