Pub Talks was such a hit this summer that we’re extending the series into the fall with three additional dates! Each event invites a local expert to share meaningful ideas in a relaxed setting at Grain Theory—followed by open Q&A, good food, and cold beer. Whether you're here to learn something new or just love a good conversation, Pub Talks is for you.
“Facing Your Own Mortality in the Human Experience”
Who wants to talk about death? It’s easy to assume that most people wish to avoid the topic. However, the world’s greatest philosophers, poets, musicians, and artists have long urged us to remember our mortality—“memento mori”—and for good reason. Come join us as we explore how thinking about death can actually help us lead more fulfilling lives.
Dr. Amy McLaughlin-Sheasby, PhD in Practical Theology at Abilene Christian University, teaches a range of courses including a class on the topic of death and dying. She earnestly believes in the importance of acknowledging and embracing death as a part of life, and challenges her students to develop ethical and compassionate responses to situations of grief and loss. In her free time, Amy enjoys playing music around town and walking on the Cedar Creek Waterway with her dog, Miles.
Bonus for attendees: Our Pour-Your-Own Beer Wall, located inside The Blakeley, is 20% off during Pub Talks! If you’re attending the event, just grab a card from the bartender up front to activate the wall. Beer is charged by the ounce. ($30 refundable card deposit required)
Come early for food and drinks, stay late to keep the conversation going.
See you at Pub Talks!
