Recover, recycle, reimagine: making art in dark times

Create found poetry and collage art, in ‘Recover, recycle, reimagine: making art in dark times’ led by poet Mae Diansangu. The workshop draws inspiration from the work of British artist Jamie Reid – known for his ‘ransom note’ style of cut-up lettering and re-purposing of existing images for new meaning.

Participants will explore what it means to make art in times of multiple crises, using materials from mainstream media to critique, reclaim, and reimagine the dominant narratives that shape our society.

This session is open to all regardless of experience – all you need to take part is a desire to engage with the world around you creatively!

About Mae Diansangu:

Mae Diansangu is a queer poet from Aberdeen who writes in Scots and English. Her practice is rooted in the belief that storytelling is a collaborative act, and she is particularly interested in reframing contemporary issues through the retelling of shared histories and myths. Much of her work explores themes of identity, resilience, power, transformation, and belonging. Her debut collection, Bloodsongs (Tapsalteerie), was longlisted for a 2025 Saltire Book Award.

‘Recover, recycle, reimagine: making art in dark times’ is part of ‘Eternal Ecstasy’, a celebration of British artist Jamie Reid containing archival work from John Marchant Gallery and the launch of a newly editioned screen print of Jamie Reid’s first artwork for the Sex Pistols – made at Peacock & the Worm in Aberdeen through our Open Access Model.

The exhibition explores the artist’s broader practice and vision, uncovering a narrative into decades of political and esoteric work, while introducing unexpected connections to places less well known in the historical canon of radical politics. For more information visit our website.
