This beginner-friendly workshop combines a brief introduction to the world of insects with hands-on instruction on how to ethically and sustainably collect, pin, and preserve butterfly/moth specimens.
Please note: this workshop is recommended for +12 and over due to sharp pins used. Children must have an adult present.
You'll learn:
- How to help your local butterfly/moth populations (Specifically monarchs)
- Ethical and sustainable practices in obtaining and preserving specimens.
- How to relax + pin a butterfly from start to finish.
Full Kit
All materials (insect pins, spreading block, forceps, x1 monarch butterfly, x1 surprise butterfly/moth, take-home box, 8x8 black shadowbox, dried reindeer moss, and dried flowers) will be provided and are included in the cost of your ticket. At the end of class, you'll be taking home all the materials and your newly mounted butterfly to create a beautiful art piece.
2nd Class Kit
For those who attended a previous pinning class. IF YOU CHOOSE THIS OPTION, YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN SPREADING BLOCK, INSECT PINS AND FORCEPTS! This kit will include x1 monarch butterfly, x1 surprise butterfly/moth, take-home box, 8x8 black shadowbox, dried reindeer moss, and dried flowers.
