Disasters come suddenly, leaving communities reeling with physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. At our October 15 ACLN lunch, two leaders will share how faith-based organizations are stepping into these moments with hope and practical support.
Ian Pollard, Divisional Director of Emergency Disaster Services with The Salvation Army in Abbotsford, will highlight how their emergency response began in 1917 after the Halifax Explosion and has grown into a worldwide network of trained personnel and volunteers. From local floods to large-scale crises, The Salvation Army partners with emergency organizations to provide food, clothing, and compassionate care. Ian will share stories from Abbotsford and across BC and explain how churches and individuals can get involved.
Kandy White, Community Recovery Specialist for Western Canada with Samaritan’s Purse Canada, will bring insight into how local churches can play a vital role in disaster relief and recovery. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has mobilized staff, equipment, and volunteers to respond to wildfires, floods, hurricanes, and more—meeting immediate needs while empowering churches to extend Christ’s compassion. Kandy will explore how congregations can prepare, respond, and engage effectively in times of crisis, ensuring their neighbors receive both practical help and spiritual encouragement.
Together, Ian and Kandy will paint a powerful picture of how the body of Christ can unite to meet urgent needs in our communities. This is a valuable opportunity to learn how your church can be ready to make a meaningful impact when it matters most.
We look forward to connecting, learning, and lifting one another up in prayer. Don’t miss this opportunity to be inspired and encouraged.
