Introduction to GIT

For this course we will be introduced to the basics of Git, and how to use it together with Github as a collaborative tool.
Version control systems (VCS) will be introduced, where different formats are compared (Local, Centralized, and distributed systems).
Throughout the lecture the students will be guided through the basics in the form of visual representation and exercises.
- Creating and initializing a Git repository.
- Adding and tracking a file.
- Committing to the database.
- Working with branches.
- Merging.
- Why does merge conflicts happen?
- How do handle them.
The lecture will focus on using the command line interface to Git, and finish with showing how the students can integrate it with tools such as VSCode.
