Oktoberfest 2026 in The Colony

Oktoberfest reaches The Colony as autumn lands. The beer halls carry the loud nights with Bavarian bands, giant steins and dancing, and lederhosen are strictly optional. On a slower night the German food is the whole appeal, bratwurst and pretzels everywhere and long tables where the flat country starts. Or a good beer with friends, and home. Check what's happening for Oktoberfest 2026 in The Colony, see which night suits, and book your tickets before they're taken.

Since 1810

Why it is called Oktoberfest when it happens in September

A horse race on a Munich meadow in 1810, watched by a royal couple and a cheering crowd

Munich's Oktoberfest dates back to October 1810 and the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The festivities closed with a horse race on 17 October, on the meadow still used today. Locals shortened the meadow's name, Theresienwiese, to die Wiesn, and the festival itself was shifted into September to catch the last of the warm weather.

Munich's 2026 Wiesn ran from September 19 to October 4.
