By providing the tools, expertise, and partnerships necessary to realize neighborhood visions, we support broad participation in the evolution of the built environment, positioning historically disinvested neighborhoods to attract future investment.[NEEDS UPDATE!]Founded in 1968, we’ve spent nearly six decades working alongside communities to shape more vibrant, resilient places. Our projects bring together residents, community stakeholders, design professionals, local government agencies, and fellow nonprofits to improve blocks, renovate parks and school grounds, reclaim abandoned structures for community use, and revitalize commercial districts. As the host of Maryland’s first-ever Placemaking Week, we built on this legacy—creating space for dialogue, collaboration, and action that led to The Vision is Yours, our ongoing initiative amplifying local voices in design.We believe these unlikely partnerships provide mutual benefit—giving volunteer designers invaluable experience that reshapes their practice toward equity while exposing community members to the behind-the-scenes process of change.
