About Tatsumaki Taiko

Tatsumaki Taiko is a traditional Japanese percussion group based in East Bay Area. Tatsumaki, from the Japanese word for "whirlwind," means "spinning dragon" - the symbol of the spirit and energy of Tatsumaki Taiko's drumming.Tatsumaki Taiko creates the atmosphere of a Japanese festival. We perform our own arrangements of traditional Japanese songs as well as many original compositions, with influences from African, Latin, jazz, and rock music. We have made many of our traditional taiko drums, as well as percussion instruments of our own design in our music studio. Our goal, in playing and teaching, is always the same: to bring people together through the sound of the drums.Tatsumaki Taiko has performed at festivals and cultural events around the Bay Area since 1998, including the Concord Obon, the Morgan Hill Haru Matsuri, the Oakland‐Fukuoka Sister City Association Moon Viewing Festival, the Berkeley Kite Festival, the Peace Lantern Ceremony, and the San Francisco AIDS Walk. We also perform at schools, weddings, corporate and nonprofit events, parties, and other celebrations. We are committed to teaching taiko through workshops and weekly classes at our studio. We encourage new students, and are always open to new membership. For information about classes or events, please visit us at tatsumakitaiko.com, on Facebook, or contact us at tatsumaki@email.com.
