Peoples Theatre Laboratory

Theatre as an entity has the ability to bring about considerable change to society and minds which inhabit it. Following the concept of Total Theatre, Peoples Theatre Laboratory works closely with individuals involved in various artforms. Our productions are an amalgamation of different disciplines, drawing concepts and elements from them to create something new altogether. The diversity of the team allows us to explore different mediums through a spectrum that otherwise binds us to the limitations of a particular form of art. We have artists such as painters, sculptors, art historians who bring in the visual art elements, people from social backgrounds to bring out other perspectives associated with the time and space of the productions. The Peoples Theatre Laboratory seeks to attain a collaborative and collective experience with the students taking theatre as a major tool of exercise, but not confining it to a particular domain or form, the PTL attempts to explore the best possible ways of contemporary art inclusive of interactivity, environmental understanding, situational improvisation and site specific adaptability. Bringing the key understandings from theatrical practices, the workshop wing of Peoples Theatre Laboratory addresses the individuals and collectives for a wholesome approach towards life and art and pushes the boundaries where all the art forms may assimilate for a larger purpose. The Laboratory’s productions represent a kind of working model in which the current research into the actor’s art can be put into practice within the theatre milieu, also known as the method of Grotowski. Peoples Theatre Laboratory has been active, experimenting with people of all age groups and staging plays since three decades now. Peoples Theatre Laboratory has no bars for people willing to learn and contribute to the game of theatre. With active participation from students from different fields, consecutive experiments with plays have been taking place for the past eight years.
