“What I recall more than the gathering was the tremendous downpour I drove through getting there. The site was a lovely old home, now occupied by Maplewood Studios, which apparently leases space to several holistic practitioners and teachers. More than a dozen people, mostly adults, attended. The food contributions were varied - kombucha and soft drinks, peanut pasta salad, vegetables in a vinaigrette dressing, hummus and crackers, macaroni & cheese, ranch-flavored chips, shepherd's pie, sweet corn muffins, strawberry muffins, cheese-filled crackers, Rice Krispie treats, dark chocolate, and more. Most attendees sat in a living room circle of chairs to talk while eating. They were largely involved in businesses related to New Age practices of healing and wellness. Though I know little regarding those areas, I certainly did not feel unwelcome, and was able to contribute something to the conversation. The overall vibe was one of welcome and friendliness. I came away more knowledgeable than when I arrive”
